Computer Return

On Monday, May 23, please have your student return the following items: 

-Chromebook

-Charger

-Computer sleeve

Students will leave computers at school each night beginning Monday.

 

Health Instruction Permission Slips

Permission slips for health education instruction were sent home on Friday on a salmon colored piece of paper.  Please read through and complete the form at the bottom.  These must be returned May 27th.

 

 

 

 

Field Trip - Kalamazoo Valley Museum

 

On Tuesday June 7, we will travel to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum to visit the Rube Goldberg exhibit and planetarium. Students will need to bring a mask (the KVM is requiring all visitors to wear a mask while in the museum) and a sack lunch to school.

 

We will also need 5 chaperones to accompany us on the trip (you will need to arrive to the KVM by 9:45am and we will finish around 1pm). Please note, you will need to drive yourself to and from the museum if you are chaperoning. You can sign up to chaperone here:

Rube Goldberg, a Pulitzer Prize cartoonist and inventor, is best remembered for his zany contraptions, known as Rube Goldberg Machines. These inventions perform a simple task in the most overcomplicated, inefficient and hilarious way possible. This exhibit brings Rube's cartoons and zany contraptions to life through 3D, life-size machines and hands-on, interactive components. It invites visitors to investigate classic engineering principles in a humorous way.

 

Water Bottles and Snacks

This is a friendly reminder that students should come to school with a full water bottle each day; while students can fill their water bottles at the bottle fillers, the water fountain remains off.

Students are also encouraged to bring 2 healthy snacks each day, one for morning recess and one for afternoon recess.

 

Library Books

If your child received a yellow slip indicating a missing library book, please work on locating and returning it.  Mrs. Berry, our media specialist, is busy working to inventory all books.

 

Brown Elementary Art Show!

 

If you were unable to attend the opening, this art show will be on display at Brown School until Wednesday, June 1st.  Please make sure you stop by to see your child’s work before the 1st of June during after school hours.  Thank you for all your hard work.  We are very proud of YOU and your success in art!

 

 Homework Reminder

Homework each night consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year. Students can also work on Lexia Core 5 and on IXL (NWEA Skills).

What we are learning this week:

Math:  This week we will continue working on division.  We will also revisit area and perimeter.

ELA/Writing:  We will continue our work on poetry.  We will analyze poems by looking at structure and figurative language.

Science: In this lesson, students explore the brain’s role in receiving information from the senses, processing that information, and controlling the muscles to enable movement. In the activity, Think Fast!, students test their reflexes with two very quick experiments and one more involved activity. They learn about how we process information in our brains and then respond to that information in different ways.
