Congratulations to our 4th grade performers!  They put on an amazing show last week!  The bucket drumming was incredible!

 

Brown School Variety Show

Information on the Brown School Variety Show was sent home last week.  If your child is interested in participating, please make sure the permission slip form is filled out and returned to the office no later than Monday, January 24.

 

Share Your Stories Night-Update

Our Brown School  “Share Your Stories Night”that was scheduled for Tuesday, January 25th has been postponed. The date has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 26.  For more information please see Mrs. Bawks’ Brown School Family Blog.

Dressing for the Weather

As winter approaches, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  All students are expected to be outside at all 3 recesses and often times during P.E. Once the snow begins, students will not be allowed to play beyond the blacktop without boots and snow pants. If your child is in need of a winter coat or any other winter apparel, please let me know.

Please talk to your students about their responsibility in wearing what you send/expect them to wear during recesses. Brown School is focused on teaching personal responsibility/natural consequences for student choices. For instance, if their pants get wet going down the slide when they chose not to wear their snow pants, they will be sitting in wet pants for the day. We will not call home for dry clothing.

 

Homework Reminder

Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.

End of the Day Dismissal Safety

We need your help to keep our students and staff safe at the end of the school day. If you are picking your child up at the 4th/5th grade area (Yukon Dr.), please be sure you are attending to the following important reminders.

*There is NO parking allowed in the bus or media center lots.

* DO NOT ask your child to walk to your parked car in a lot.

* If you prefer to park, please plan to use the office lot (off of Brown School Rd). There you can park and walk up the crosswalk to greet your child on the sidewalk - even if they are in 4th or 5th grade.

Thank you for your patience and attention to these guidelines. Keeping our students, staff, and families safe is a top priority. 

What we are learning this week:

Math:  We will continue our study of decimals and their relationships to fractions. You can view some materials to help you support our child's learning by CLICKING HERE.

ELA: We will continue learning about the cause and effect text structure.

Writing:  We will continue our study of prefixes and suffixes and parts of speech.

Science:  In this lesson, students learn that we use the energy from food to make our bodies move just like cars use the energy from gasoline to move. In the activity, Twist-o-matic Tester, students build paper models of an amusement park ride called the Twist-o-Matic. The ride stores energy in rubber bands and spins around when the energy is released. Students compare the speed of the spins when they use a thin rubber band versus a thick rubber band.

Social Studies:  We will continue our study of human geography.

P2: We will study a topic in the Other People Matter Mindset.  We will discuss how when you see others struggle, you help them if you can.
