4th Grade Swimming
*Please read the following note from our PE teachers.
The permission slip mentioned in the letter will be sent home this week.
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Your child will soon be participating in our third grade water safety and swimming program (This program is traditionally held for 3rd graders, however, this program was suspended last year). Classes will be held at the St. Joseph High School pool. Students are transported to the pool on St. Joseph School buses, with teachers accompanying the classes.
Our water safety and swimming course offers instruction in survival swimming. No individual is ever drown-proof. We discuss various water related emergencies as well as practical life saving skills.
Classes will start on Wednesdays April 27, May 11, May 18, and May 25 for Brown School. Each class will meet for four days.
Your child will need a swimsuit, towel, plastic bag (for wet swimsuit and towel) and swim cap (if they want one). Please put your child’s name on all of these items, so lost items can be returned.
Please fill out the slip below and return it by Friday April 22. If you know of any problem, physical or mental, that might interfere with your child’s participation in this program, please inform us. All students are expected to participate in this unit.
-Mr. Pfahler and Ms. Pagel (P.E. Teachers)
Dressing for the Weather
As winter approaches, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. All students are expected to be outside at all 3 recesses and often times during P.E. Once the snow begins, students will not be allowed to play beyond the blacktop without boots and snow pants. If your child is in need of a winter coat or any other winter apparel, please let me know.
Please talk to your students about their responsibility in wearing what you send/expect them to wear during recesses. Brown School is focused on teaching personal responsibility/natural consequences for student choices. For instance, if their pants get wet going down the slide when they chose not to wear their snow pants, they will be sitting in wet pants for the day. We will not call home for dry clothing.
Homework Reminder
Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.
