News From the MUSIC room
Dear 4th grade Brown families,
Just a reminder: the 4th grade Musical is on January 19th, 7:00 pm at the HS auditorium . Our Program Theme this year is “We are Brown School, We are America” The students can wear Patriotic colors (Red, White, and Blue) for the show. Students will follow the signs and report to the HS Choir room no earlier than 6:45. Please take your student's coats and belongings with you to your seat so they can leave the show right from the stage! Families, please wait to be seated until the other performance has ended. All the elementary schools are performing on the same night but at different times. Thank you again for all your support. The students can’t wait to show you all their hard work!
Thank You,
Elizabeth Richards & Rachelle McElroy
Please email rmcelroy@sjschools.org or erichards@sjschools.org with any questions.
Dressing for the Weather
Winter is here! Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. All students are expected to be outside at all 3 recesses and often times during P.E. Once the snow begins, students will not be allowed to play beyond the blacktop without boots and snow pants. If your child is in need of a winter coat or any other winter apparel, please let me know.
Please talk to your students about their responsibility in wearing what you send/expect them to wear during recesses. Brown School is focused on teaching personal responsibility/natural consequences for student choices. For instance, if their pants get wet going down the slide when they chose not to wear their snow pants, they will be sitting in wet pants for the day. We will not call home for dry clothing.
Share Your Stories Night-Update

What we are learning this week:
Math: We will begin Unit 4! In this unit, students learn to express small and large numbers, from hundredths to hundred-thousands. They learn to write tenths and hundredths using decimal notation and to work with whole numbers within 1 million. You can view some materials to help you support our child's learning by CLICKING HERE.
ELA: We will begin learning about the cause and effect text structure.
Writing: We will continue our study of prefixes and suffixes and parts of speech.
Science: We will begin our Energizing Everything unit. The anchoring phenomenon for this unit is an intricate Rube Goldberg machine. Students generate observations and questions about the phenomenon and create an initial conceptual model to explain what is happening.
Social Studies: We will continue our study of human geography.
P2: We will study Perseverance. Perseverance means, “You complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up."
